How it Works
Customers using a 2-way Satellite Internet service connect to the internet via a satellite dish with receiving and transmitting capabilities. A 2-way modem is plugged into your PC or MAC or network router and then plugged into the satellite dish mounted on the roof. The earth station sends and receives signals to a satellite in orbit. The satellite communicates with another earth station which is connected to the Internet. 2-way satellite communication means no other terrestrial links are required -- no phone line needed.

Frequently Asked Questions
Will I need a large dish?
The size of dish required is dependant on your location within the satellite footprint (see Coverage Area). The closer you are to the centre of the footprint, the small the dish. There are two dish sizes, 84cm or 1.2m.
What is a site survey?
We will either visit your site to assess, document and quote the installation of the service or ask you to fill in a paper-based site survey. A site survey is required for non-standard installations where we need further information in order to quote the cost of the installation.
Can we host an email server or webserver over satellite?
The service is not designed to host email server or web servers at your site. We recommend that customers with email server or web servers use our Hosting services, which would provide high-speed access and can be maintained remotely.
Can the service be relocated at any time?
If you are moving to a new location, you must provide Clear with 30 days prior written notice. If the new address is within the our satellite footprint, we may agree to install the service at the new location at an agreed time. You will be charged an installation fee.
Can I use my existing satellite TV dish?
Satellite TV systems are one way, which means that they simply receive a signal. Clear Networks Satellite is a two way product that both receive a signal and send one back to the satellite. This means that the type of dish is different to that used for receiving satellite TV.
Will I need special software or hardware?
Minimum hardware platform should be equivalent to PIII, 256Mb RAM, 500Mb free disk space, MS Windows 2000 (or MAC OSX or Linux), CD-ROM.
Do I need a dedicated phone line?
The satellite system looks after both reception and transmission, so works completely independently of phone system.
Can I install it myself?
No a professional installation of the dish is required.
Am I always connected?
Yes. Extreme weather conditions can temporarily disrupt satellite communications, but often do not last long.
