What does the Network look like?
The service is represented in the diagram below in Figure 1 indicating the portion of the Satellite service delivered by NBN Co. The network boundary points are the UNI on the modem located at your premises to which the service is supplied; and the satellite-side of the Internet Access Point.

What will be supplied by NBNCo/Clear Networks?
NBN Co will be providing you the satellite equipment at your premise called the Network Termination Device (NTD). The NTD is comprised of:
- a satellite antenna (dish) installed at your premises (typically 1.2 meters in diameter);
- electronic equipment mounted on teh satellite antenna, known as the outdoor unit;
- cabling between the outdoor unit and the modem at your premises; and
- a User Network Interface (UNI) being a physical data port on the modem at your premises;
Any equipment or service beyond the NTD is the responsibility of the home-owner.

Where do I want equipment to go?
Quite often homeowners and occupiers choose to have broadband services installed in the study or home office area and then connected to a wireless router allowing them to use their computers or smart phones via the in-premises wireless network. It is worthwhile taking time to consider the different ways you may use your service so you can have the equipment installed in an appropriate location. If you have not requested a wireless router, you can contact Clear Networks who can assist you. Note, this will be sent via post directly to you. The installer does not supply this.
The installer will advise you if the equipment can be installed in your preferred location as part of our standard installation method. There are, however, technical and operational considerations as well as safety requirements which affect where NBN equipment and cables can be installed, just as there are when connecting other services such as electricity, gas or water.
These requirements help to ensure that the installation is done in a safe manner and that the equipment is as easily accessible and protected from accidental damage as possible. NBN Co installers are trained to install the satellite NTDs (the satellite antenna, modem and associated cables) and have restrictions on where they can safely work. If you would like the NTD cable to go through your roof or under the floor to connect to an inside wall, the installer may be able to arrange a custom installation and provide you with a quotation from an appropriately qualified technician. Charges may apply and will be quoted accordingly.
Do I need new cabling from my equipment to the NBN Co equipment?
In many cases your existing computer cables and equipment can be used to connect to the Interim Satellite service. However, you are responsible for connecting your cables and equipment to the NTD.
If you choose to have the modem installed near your computer, you may simply be able to plug it into the modem using your existing cables and wireless router if required. Clear Networks can advise you what types of wireless routers and cables can be used. If you want to connect a computer or other devices in other rooms, you will need to use a wireless router or install cables.
What installation time-slots are available?
NBN Co installer representatives will arrange installation at a mutually convenient time, either 8:00am-12:00pm or 12:00pm–4:00pm, Monday to Friday, except public holidays. The installer will call 24 hours prior to confirm the appointment.
Installation of your service will be completed typically within 30 days of your order
Please note that if you cancel your application or miss an appointment once the installation staff are deployed you will incur a $180.00 fee which will be debited to your account at the time this occurs.
If you have made an appointment, but cannot be there on the appointed day:
- Contact us to arrange another time; or
- Ask your authorised representative to meet our installer;
Note - If you authorise someone else (aged 18 years or older) to be present on behalf of you for your appointment, they will need to make decisions including where the satellite dish and modem should be installed. If you decide later to change the location of the satellite dish and/or modem, please contact us and we can organise this for you. Charges may apply and will be quoted accordingly.
