How long does it take to set up ADSL?
It can take up to 10 days before the Clear Networks ADSL service is provisioned and installed at your premises. In some cases, the time to complete an order can be less.

When will my modem arrive?
You will receive the modem within 10 days. Delivery time may vary depending on your location. Once you’ve received your modem please call 1300 855 215 and we will set up your service.

I already have an existing ADSL modem. Can I use it?
You can use an ADSL modem that you already have or have purchased, provided it is listed as an ADSL modem approved by Clear Networks. Click here to view the approved hardware. The modem must also be one approved for use in Australia by the Australian Communications Authority. If you choose to do the install yourself you will also need: In-Line Filters, Network Card (if using an Ethernet Modem)

How do I update my user name and password in my ADSL modem?
Use these instructions when you've changed your Clear Networks user name or password in My Account or with our team over the phone, and you need to change the user name and password settings in your ADSL Modem.

The way to change your user name and password in your ADSL modem depends on what kind of modem you have. Please read about your modem below.

Are there any additional charges for ADSL?
A number of additional charges may apply, ranging from: additional work required at the time of installation that is outside the standard installation package, additional hardware, change of ADSL speed, relocation of ADSL service and the disconnection of ADSL service and cancellation of ADSL service prior to installation. The costs that may be associated with your ADSL connection are listed below:

  • Relocation
  • Disconnection
  • Cancellation prior to install
  • Additional hardware

What sort of speeds will I get on ADSL?
Most customers will experience the speed of their chosen plan. However, different factors do affect broadband speeds, they include:
  • Internet traffic congestion
  • The distance from the exchange
  • The quality of phone line
  • Signal strength
  • The number of joins in phone line
  • The speed of the websites visited

Where can I check my usage?
Customers can check their usage details via the My Account section of the Clear Networks website. You will need your user name and password to login.

Can I change my method of payment?
You can choose to pay by credit card or direct debit. After you've signed up you can change payment methods by calling our accounts team on 1300 855 215.

I don't have a credit card. Can I still apply for a broadband account?
Yes. You can pay via direct debit.

Does my monthly bill get sent out by mail?
To save on paper and do our bit for the environment we send your invoice to your ClearMail email address. We can mail you out an invoice for an additional fee which you can request from our Accounts team on 1300 855 215.

If I move house, can I stay on the same plan?
Those who move house or office will be able to stay on the same plan providing they are on the same DSLAM network. After the move you could always choose to upgrade your plan.

If you move to an area which is not yet covered by Clear Networks, your speed will be limited to 256kbps, 512kbps, 1500kbps or 'up to 8000kbps' based on the plan you choose.

At the end of my contract can I stay on the same plan I signed up for?
You can sign up to any of our new plans or if you old plan suited you the best you can stay on it. If you wish to add another service like ClearTalk you may want to upgrade your speed and can do so by choosing one of our Voice ready plans.

What is shaping?
Shaping or Capped plans refer to the slowing of the speed of your connection when you reach your data allowance for the month. If you exceed your download limit, your connection speed will be shaped to a slower speed, and you will not pay any excess charges.

Your broadband connection will drop to 64kbps for rest of the month that you have exceed your limit. Your quota resets at the beginning of the next month.

How is my monthly data calculated?

Ongoing we count the amount of data on a monthly basis calculated at the end of each month. The first month is calculated pro rata from when your account was activated. If you exceed your quota during a month you will be shaped and will stay shaped until the start of the next month.

What is counted towards my monthly quota?

For ADSL customers, only downloads are counted towards your data allowance.

Which operating systems are required for ADSL?

Windows 98SE, Windows ME, Windows 2000 and Windows XP, Windows Vista, Mac OSX
