Where is Satellite available?
Anywhere in Australia.
What is your fee for equipment supply, installation, and testing & commissioning of all required equipment?
If you are a subsidised customer, this fee starts at $199 for an 18 month plan, but installation is free on 36 month satellite plans. If you are a full fee paying customer the installation is $2,750.
Does the price change?
Your plan price will remain the same for the length of the contract. You can choose to upgrade your plan at anytime.
When is my installation expected to take place?
Our installations are typically completed in under four weeks from the date of your order. We occasionally have delays of a few extra days with shipping to especially remote parts of Australia.
What about data limits?
The data limit is the maximum amount of data that you are allowed to download during a month. If you exceed the limit you will be charged extra for each additional megabyte or under the Capped plans your service will be shaped or slowed down to a lower speed. We have a free online usage meter where you can check during the month if you think you are going to run over your limit.
Is it portable?
No, you cannnot use it on your mobile home. Upon installation at your property, the dish and modem are set to use the beam and reception conditions that apply at that location.
Does it use my telephone?
No. Our satellite service is a full 2-Way system that does not use your telephone at all.
Is it affected by rain or heavy cloud cover?
The satellite system is designed to compensate for 'rain fade' and will boost the signal strength when fade is detected. This is effective in all but extreme conditions.
Can I use it for voice calls?
Yes. You can use the ClearTalk service over your satellite connection. Read more about ClearTalk here.
Do you offer a statement of correct installation and operation, so that any possible malfunctions in the future are the responsibility of your company?
Our installer cannot complete an installation without a signature from the customer, indicating that an installation has been completed to their satisfaction, and that the service is functioning properly. Subsequent to this, we are required to deliver average data download and upload speeds of at least 60 per cent of the peak speeds shown in accordance with the selected plan and for at least 75 per cent of the time.
What networking capabilities do I need on my computer?
Your computer must have an available, empty and configured Ethernet Port (or Network Card, depending on your motherboard). These are required for connection to the satellite modem. To determine that you have these on your Windows PC, you should follow these steps:
- From the desktop, right-click on the 'My Computer' icon.
- The dialog box which appears will include an option titled 'Manage'. Left-click this option.
- A window will be displayed. Locate and left-click the option 'Device Manager' in the left-hand list.
- Now locate the option 'Network adapters' in the right-hand list.
- If this option is expandable (i.e. there is a + symbol to the left of the option) then click (the + symbol) to expand it.
If there is no + symbol next to 'Network adapters' or there is a yellow or red mark on the 'Network Adapters' icon, then your ethernet connection is not available or not configured. If this is the case then your local computer supplier or computer vendor should be able to help you in correctly installing and configuring your ethernet port. We must have this facility available in order to successfully install your satellite service, and it is your responsibility to see that this is the case when our installer arrives.
What implications on my existing home network will the installation have?
Your Clear installer is required to install to a stand-alone PC only, and not a home or business network. Once he/she has completed the successful installation of your satellite service to a stand-alone PC, you are free to reconnect your network to the satellite service using the settings provided by the installer (and applied to the stand-alone PC). If you are uncomfortable with the technical complexities associated with this, we suggest you have a computer technician do it for you.
Telstra doesn’t support Macintosh computers on their satellite service. Do you?
We support Apple Mac OSX, but no previous Apple operating systems. We're also fine with Linux, and any Windows flavour including and subsequent to Windows 2000.
